Hurricane Ike
The thoughts and best wishes of the people of American General Life and Accident Insurance Company (AGLA) are with all those affected by the recent severe weather events caused by Hurricane Ike. For more than a century, AGLA has been known for its strength, integrity and responsiveness to the needs of its customers, and we intend to maintain that reputation now during this crisis and after the debris is cleared and lives are rebuilt.
At AGLA, our first priority is the well-being and satisfaction of our customers. We understand that many residents in Texas have been affected by the recent hurricane, losing their homes and records or being displaced due to evacuation. Working with your state’s insurance regulators, we want to work with you during this difficult time.
If you are an AGLA policy owner and if your residence lies in a county that has been officially declared a state or federal disaster area due to the weather crises in Texas, AGLA has done the following for you:
- We have reversed the lapsing (termination) of any policies that lapsed on or after September 7, 2008 through November 9, 2008, returning them to an in-force status;
- We have extended the grace period for all in-force policies owned by you so that they will not lapse for non-payment of premiums until November 9, 2008;
- We have extended until November 9, 2008, the time for you to perform any acts otherwise limited by the terms of your policies, including, but not limited to:
- the submission of claims,
- reporting of information,
- the exercising of policy conversion rights, and
- the payment of funds
We understand that quality customer service is especially important to you at this time. You can reach our friendly customer service representatives at 1-800-888-2452:
- if you cannot reach your local AGLA agent or local AGLA office and you need service assistance;
- if you need to change your billing address;
- if you need to file a claim;
- if you are receiving benefits or periodic payments or if you are waiting for a claim payment and you need your check mailed to an alternated address;
- if you are an employer sponsoring a voluntary benefits (payroll deduction) plan and have questions; or
